Founded in 2013, Poder in Action (previously Center for Neighborhood Leadership), focuses on leadership development, systems change, and moving local public policy.
Poder in Action’s mission is to build power to disrupt and dismantle systems of oppression and determine a liberated future as people of color in Arizona through our lived experience, leadership development and civic participation.
Poder in Action is led by organizers who began as volunteers within the organization and created programs based on their personal experience with injustice in the immigration, criminal justice, and education systems. Each program builds community power by centering those who are most impacted by systemic oppression.
We hold our humanity.
Our humanity is sacred and recognized by faith and spiritual traditions around the world.
Our humanity is a divine gift - a truth that passes all understanding.
Our humanity is responsibility and recognized by intellectuals and philosophers throughout time. Our humanity is an inalienable right in the eyes of the law.
Our humanity transcends oppression. Oppressors falsely deny our humanity but our humanity cannot be lost or taken away.
Our humanity demands that we acknowledge the harm of oppression on our bodies, minds, and spirits.
We harness our humanity into a force for liberation and healing.
Our humanity seeks to restore justice in the face of oppression. Justice requires atonement and reparations.
Our humanity reminds us that there can be no reconciliation between master and slave (the oppressor and the oppressed). Reconciliation can only exist between equals through recognition of our shared humanity.
Our humanity is centered on lives of love and dignity. These are our human rights.
